We are so excited to welcome local author Shannon Lynn at Lark & Owl Booksellers for a super fun story time with her book, THE VESTA CHRONICLES: SUNCHASER!

RSVPing is not required to attend the story time but does help us get a more accurate head count!

About the book: Split set in futuristic space and a dystopian Texas Hill Country, THE VESTA CHRONICLES: SUNCHASER is a middle grade sci-fi adventure story that follows the journey of a young Tom Raynor who dreams of being anywhere but stuck between the monochromatic walls of the city-ship he’s called home for all eleven years of his life. When he accidentally initiates the autopilot of one of a light sail vessel commissioned for celestial mining missions, Tom finds himself careening through space toward an unknown destination. Will he survive the space sail flight? And if he does, will he ever make it back home? With a target age range of 8-14 years old (and the young at heart), readers who like adventure stories, survival stories, and sci-fi will be rooting for this young hero from page one!

About the Author: SHANNON LYNN is the author of The Vesta Chronicles series. Her middle grade stories are classic adventure narratives full of realistic sci-fi plot details, dangerously exciting action, and relatable characters who readers are pulling for from page one. She holds a BA in English (Creative Writing) and MA in Liberal Arts from Louisiana State University which was preceded by journalism and creative writing studies at Louisiana Tech University. After many years teaching high school English, she currently coordinates, writes, and edits K-12 English Language Arts and Reading curriculum in the state of Texas. With a special lifelong interest in writing the American South and a deep respect for the importance of providing young imaginations with opportunities to be writers themselves, she hopes her stories inspire readers to create their own narratives full of plot points they dream of living and characters they dream of being.

About the Illustrator: RUTH ANN MCCOMBS, a lifelong Educator, is a retired Special Education teacher who spent a thirty-year career in Calcasieu Parish public schools in Louisiana. A proud alumna of Louisiana Tech University, she credits her artistic abilities to noticing and celebrating the beauty in all things. As mother of the author, she especially enjoyed the family collaboration that this project entailed. When she is not sketching art on one of her nearly-full canvas pads, she can often be found sailing the high seas of Galveston Bay and the Texas Coast with her husband of 50+ years.
